Vallin 2013 Syrah - Santa Barbara County

According to Wine.com, Vallin is a collaboration line from a couple sommeliers and a winemaker specializing in Rhone varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, and Viognier.

Tonight I tried the 2013 Syrah while watching the final episodes of Season 1 of The Bridge. The wine is rich with floral notes and puckering tannins. Full bodied, the dry, dark cherry and plum flavor pairs well with steak or chicken.

I found The Bridge to be both depressing and infuriating while still compelling. The Vallin, however, was pleasant and made me very happy.

The Santa Barbara region is producing some very good wines and they are typically a bit more expensive than their cousins from Paso Robles or Napa Valley. That's a shame because I feel that limits their audience, and this Syrah deserves to be shared with more lovers of good wine.
